PEAT WORKS LOCOS 

Motor Rail locos working at peat works today have usually been rebuilt and re-engined in the peat companies workshops and look very different from when they left the Simplex works at Elstow Road. This is a selection of typical examples in use today.

20/28hp w/n 8655. Wm Sinclair Horticulture Ltd, Bolton Fell, Cumbria 29th July 1999.

This loco has been rebuilt with home made bodywork, tall cab and Deutz air-cooled engine.

20/20hp W/n 8738. Wm Sinclair Horticulture Ltd, Auchencorth Moss, Midlothian.

This loco has been re-engined with a Deutz engine and fitted with hydraulic transmission.

20/28hp w/n 21250. L&P Peat Ltd, Letham Moss, Falkirk.

This loco has been rebuilt by Alan Keef with new bodywork. It is intended for use at Fannyside Moss when that site reopens.

40s w/n 40s383. L&P Peat Ltd, Nutberry Moss works, Dumfries & Galloway.

This loco is almost original and has only a rearward extension to the cab to alter its appearance from original.

This loco has had an extensive rebuild by R.S. Byers Ltd and looks completely different from when new.
