Fowler Engined Locos

Only two locos were built with engines from this manufacturer. Both were diesels.

5551 was fitted with a 12/18 H.P. F2V engine No. CI 158, classed as 24 H.P. and was despatched on 3rd August 1932 for Imperial Chemical Industries at Tunstead, Derbyshire as their loco number R.S. 34. The engine was later replaced by a Dorman 2DL. An entry on the engine record sheet for this loco under “special observations” states: “ Mr. T. D. Abbott tested engine whilst self was away on holiday.”

5552 was a metre gauge loco, classed as 20 H.P., fitted with a Fowler-Sanders M6D2-2B engine and was ordered by John Fowler (Leeds) Ltd. for an overseas location via Messrs R. Steinmann & Co. and despatched to British Guyana on 19th May 1937 via the S.S. Arakana, West Harrington Dock, Liverpool.
