25/40
H.P. (Ford Engined Loco)
Only one of these 2 -Ton petrol-engined locos was built in 1932. It is listed in the order book as 25 H.P. and was despatched to the Ford Motor Co. at Dagenham on 2nd March 1932 for display. It was later returned and spent time on hire at several sites. The type was listed in the 1932 catalogue (as 25/40 H.P.) but no picture or further information was provided. The loco is assumed to have been fitted with a Ford AA 4-cylinder, 3-Litre side valve engine, the industrial version of the Ford A. The frame was the same type as used on the 20/35 H.P. locos.
Motor Rail records indicate that 20/35 H.P. loco w/n 5461 of 1937 was “built up” from loco 7001. It was fitted with an engine that had previously been fitted to 20/35 H.P. loco 5250 of 1931. Presumably the new engine was fitted to the overhauled 7001 and the whole lot sold as a new loco. The customer was Dinmor Quarries Ltd. and the loco was despatched to Llanfair P.G. station, Anglesey on 31st March 1937.
